Q&A: Should I join Air Force active duty or reserves with a baby on the way?

Question by DirtySmoke: Should I join Air Force active duty or reserves with a baby on the way?
My girlfriend is 16 weeks pregnant. I dont want to leave her or my baby but I want to support them and active duty seems the best route at this point. With the pay, bonuses, healthcare, and opportunities I can have after serving. What do you guys think?

The military does have its benefits but it is not for everyone... your child would get benefits but your girlfriend would not (until you are married) ...It can be a very positive experience but please do not join in hopes of getting rich or living a lavish lifestyle.....that being said tho... I really think that it can be what you make of it.. if you generally are a couple that can make the best of any situation then give it a shot... if you are an unstable relationship.. the military will not make it better! We love it but it def is not always easy to be married to the military... also consider that if this is the first child.. you may end up living far away from family and she may need the support of loved ones during that first year... just a woman's thought.. either way... best of luck to you both and to your new child on the way!!

I need help with a baby health project: Please help?

Question by weird: I need help with a baby health project: Please help?
Here are three questions:
- How old do infants need to be accepted into daycare?
-whats the cost of daycare for one week and what is the name of the daycare?
-How much does a hospital charge for the delivery of a baby?

Thanks for all the help in advance

Answer by manicmousy
Well, the first is that babies can go to daycare at any time. Infants will cost more per week because they need more care & attention.

as far as the cost of daycare for a week, it really depends on where you go. Our daughter only goes 2 days a week & we pay 7.90 for 2 days, and that's WITH a 10% discount from my company. it can go up from there. it goes down as the child gets older, but there again, it depends on where you go.

as far as cost for the delivery of the baby, that also depends on where you go, and if you have insurance & what type.
when i gave birth to our daughter, we were on hubbys HMO. i think the total back in 2006 was over ,000, including our daughter's 4 day stay in the NICU, and we only paid like 0 or something like that. it was around 0 a day give or take a few bucks.
if we would have had a PPO, it might have been more. Plus it depends on if you go to a county hospital or whatnot.

having a baby during medical school?

Question by transplanted southerner: having a baby during medical school?
I was wondering if anyone has had a baby during medical school. My husband works full time, and I am in my second year of medical school. We would like to start a family, but are having a difficult time deciding what the best time would be. We think this may be the best time, as I will be even busier in residency. I'm not sure I want to have a baby and not be able to spend time with him/her, which is what will happen once I start rotations/residency. Any advice?

Best answer:

Answer by Randy W
Never a good time. Had one in med school, one in med school rotations and 1 in residency. It's whenever you two decide. Leaving them is always tough. The work hours in residency are easier now, so you may have some time to enjoy the children in residency, particularly if you had one now and they were 2-3 by residency.
